Documents You Need to File Your 2026 Taxes (Checklist)
The single biggest delay in getting a tax return filed is usually missing documents, not the actual preparation. Here's what to gather before your appointment.
For a personal (T1) return:
- T4 (employment income), T4A, T5 (investment income) and any other tax slips you've received.
- Receipts for deductions — RRSP contributions, childcare, medical expenses, charitable donations.
- If self-employed: a summary of business income and expenses for the year.
- Last year's Notice of Assessment, if you're a new client.
For a corporate (T2) return:
- Year-end financial statements or bookkeeping records.
- Prior year's corporate return and Notice of Assessment.
- Details of any shareholder loans, dividends paid, or major asset purchases during the year.
If you're not sure whether something qualifies as a deduction or needs to be included, bring it anyway — that's part of what Corporate & Personal Tax review covers.
