Terms of Use

Last updated: October 20, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of this website (the "Site"), operated by Phelade Consult ("Phelade Consult", "we", "us", "our"), an accounting firm based in Calgary, Alberta. By using the Site you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy & Cookie Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. General Information Only, Not Advice

The articles, checklists, guides, FAQs and service descriptions on the Site are general information about bookkeeping, tax, payroll and related topics in Canada and Alberta. They are not accounting, tax, legal, financial or investment advice for any particular person or business.

Tax law, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Alberta rules, rates and deadlines change often. Content is accurate only as of the date it was published or last updated, and we have no obligation to update it. Do not act, or decide not to act, on anything on the Site without first getting advice on your own circumstances, from us under a signed engagement letter or from another qualified adviser. You rely on Site content at your own risk.

2. No Client Relationship Until an Engagement Letter Is Signed

Using the Site, reading its content, sending us a message, booking or attending a free consultation, or receiving our email updates does not make you our client and does not create an accountant–client or any other professional relationship.

A client relationship begins only when you and we have both signed a written engagement letter. Before accepting any work we may need to check for conflicts of interest, and we may decline any engagement. If you become a client, your engagement letter governs our services, fees and responsibilities; if it conflicts with these Terms, the engagement letter prevails.

3. Free Consultations

A free consultation is an introductory conversation, at no charge and with no obligation, so we can understand your needs and, where appropriate, offer you a written quote. Anything discussed is general in nature and is not advice you should rely on. Fees for any work are agreed in writing before that work begins.

4. Deadlines and Urgent Matters

Sending us a message through the Site, by email or on social media does not file anything on your behalf, does not stop, preserve or extend any deadline (including CRA filing, payment, instalment and objection deadlines), and does not mean we have accepted your matter. Until an engagement letter is signed, you remain responsible for meeting your own deadlines. If something is time-sensitive, please call us at (403) 312-2627.

5. Using the Contact Forms

Please give accurate details so we can reply. Do not send your Social Insurance Number, tax account numbers, bank or card numbers, passwords, or tax documents through the forms or by ordinary email; once an engagement is underway we will arrange a secure way to exchange them.

Information sent over the internet is never completely secure. We use reasonable safeguards, described in our Privacy & Cookie Policy, but we cannot guarantee that information you send us online will not be intercepted. We aim to reply to every genuine enquiry, but we cannot promise a particular response time. We collect, use and protect the personal information you send us as set out in our Privacy & Cookie Policy, in line with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act.

6. Security Check (Cloudflare Turnstile)

Our contact forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a security service from Cloudflare, Inc. that tells people apart from automated programs ("bots"), in most cases without asking you to solve a puzzle. Before a message is accepted, Turnstile runs a brief check in your browser and our server confirms the result with Cloudflare. If the check cannot be completed, for example because a browser extension blocks it, the form cannot be sent and you are welcome to email or call us instead.

By submitting a form you agree to this check. Cloudflare's use of the information it processes is described in its Turnstile Privacy Addendum, and what this means for your information is set out in our Privacy & Cookie Policy.

7. Email Updates

Our forms include an optional box to receive financial news and updates from us by email. It is unticked unless you tick it, and it is never a condition of contacting us. When you tick it, we keep a record of your consent (the wording you agreed to, the date and time, the page and the IP address it came from), as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires.

Every update we send identifies Phelade Consult, includes our contact details and mailing address, and contains a working unsubscribe link. You can withdraw your consent at any time with that link or by contacting us at hello@pheladeconsult.com; we will act on it promptly and in any case within 10 business days. Our updates are general information, like the rest of the Site, and not advice for your situation.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • send messages through the Site by automated means, or avoid, disable or interfere with the security check;
  • copy, scrape or harvest Site content or contact details by automated means, including to train or feed software or artificial-intelligence systems;
  • send spam, false information, or unlawful, abusive, defamatory or misleading content, or impersonate any person;
  • upload or transmit viruses or other harmful code, or probe, scan or test the Site's vulnerability;
  • try to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its content management system or the systems behind it; or
  • use the Site in any way that breaks the law, infringes anyone's rights, or could damage the Site or disrupt other visitors.

We may block, restrict or end anyone's access to the Site, without notice, if we believe these Terms have been broken.

9. Our Content and Name

The text, articles, logo, graphics and other material on the Site, and the Phelade Consult name and logo, belong to Phelade Consult or the people who licensed them to us, and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You may view and print pages for your own personal, non-commercial use, and you may link to our pages as long as you do not suggest that we endorse you. Any other copying, republishing, adapting or selling requires our written permission.

10. Other Websites and Services

The Site links to, and relies on, services run by others, such as Google Maps, our social media profiles, Cloudflare and Zoho. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices; their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.

11. Changes to the Site

We may change, suspend or withdraw all or part of the Site at any time, without notice, and we are not responsible if it is unavailable at any time or for any period.

12. No Warranties

We work to keep the Site accurate and available, but it is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no promises or warranties, express or implied, that the Site or its content is complete, accurate, current, fit for any particular purpose, uninterrupted, secure or free of errors or harmful code.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Phelade Consult and its owners, staff and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss or damage, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, tax benefits, or any tax, penalty or interest, arising from or related to your use of the Site or your reliance on its content. Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to the Site is limited to CAD $100.

This section does not apply to services we provide under a signed engagement letter, which governs those services, and nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability or right that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including your rights under Alberta's Consumer Protection Act.

14. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to compensate Phelade Consult for any claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Site.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute about the Site or these Terms will be decided by the courts of Alberta sitting in Calgary, except where a law that protects consumers gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.

16. General

These Terms and our Privacy & Cookie Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about your use of the Site. If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms; you may not transfer yours without our written consent.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time by posting the new version on this page and changing the "Last updated" date above. The version in force when you use the Site applies to that use; changes do not affect any dispute that arose before they were posted.

18. Contact Us

Questions about these Terms can be sent to hello@pheladeconsult.com or by phone at (403) 312-2627. Our office is located at 177 Cranbrook Gardens SE, Calgary, AB.
